Chhath falls six days after Tihar. Devotees, mostly women, fast without water and make offerings of fruit and thekuwa to the setting and then the rising sun, standing waist-deep in water.
Janakpur's ponds and the banks of the Koshi, Narayani and Bagmati are lined with lamps and families; it has also become a big event in Kathmandu along the Bagmati and at Kamal Pokhari.
