Amaltari Tharu homestay
In Nepali: अमलटारी थारू होमस्टे

Amaltari lies on the Narayani in the buffer zone of Chitwan National Park, on the Nawalpur side. Its Tharu families run a well-organised community homestay, serving traditional food in painted mud-walled houses and performing stick and peacock dances.
Guided jungle walks, jeep safaris into western Chitwan and birdwatching on the river are arranged locally, and rhinos regularly graze near the village. It is one of the best examples of community-based tourism in the Terai.
What to see and do
Walk with community guides in the buffer zone forest, take a jeep safari into western Chitwan, go birdwatching along the Narayani, and join Tharu cultural evenings. Visit the Amaltari community museum and the Tharu houses decorated with traditional motifs.
Good to know
Book homestays through the village committee. Rhinos wander near the village — follow your guide's instructions. Winter mornings are foggy; the best wildlife viewing is from February to April.
