Betana Wetland
In Nepali: बेतना सिमसार

A community-managed pond and forest on the highway near Belbari, with boating, birds and a small park.
Betana is a small lake set in forest just off the East–West Highway east of Itahari. The local community has turned it into a pleasant stop with boating, walking paths and picnic areas, and it attracts herons, kingfishers and migrating ducks in winter.
It is an easy break on a journey across the eastern Terai and a good example of community-led conservation.
What to see and do
Take a boat on the lake, walk the forest paths, and watch for spotted deer, herons, egrets and kingfishers. It is a pleasant break from the highway for families.
Good to know
Weekends can be busy. Mosquitoes are common in summer. A small entry fee supports community management.
