Trishuli River
In Nepali: त्रिशूली नदी
The Trishuli is named after Shiva's trident (trishul) and rises near Gosaikunda. Its middle section, running alongside the Prithvi Highway, offers fun grade III–IV rapids, sandy beaches and riverside camps, and one- to three-day trips are easy to arrange from Kathmandu or Pokhara.
Popular put-ins are at Charaudi and Bhaireni; many trips end at Kurintar near Manakamana or continue towards Chitwan. Water is highest and wildest from June to September, when some sections close.
What to see and do
Choose a one-day rafting trip with lunch on a beach, or two to three days with overnight camps, bonfires and beach games. Riverside resorts along the Prithvi Highway also offer kayaking lessons, canyoning and simple relaxation by the water. Many travellers raft the Trishuli on the way between Kathmandu and Pokhara or Chitwan.
Good to know
Book with licensed operators who provide life jackets, helmets and trained guides. Highway traffic along the river is heavy; plan road travel with time to spare.
