Dang is a wide valley between the Chure and Mahabharat ranges, long home to the Dangaura Tharu, whose painted mud houses, fishing traditions and Maghi festival in January are central to local life. Ghorahi and Tulsipur are now fast-growing cities.
The Ambikeshwari temple in Ghorahi is the valley's main shrine. The Ratna Nath monastery at Chaughera is a historic seat of the Nath sect. The southern Deukhuri valley holds the capital of Lumbini Province.

Visit the Ambikeshwari temple in Ghorahi, the Ratnanath monastery at Chaughera, and Tharu villages with their painted homes and museums. Try Tharu dishes such as dhikri (steamed rice cakes) and ghonghi (river snails). The Tulsipur area has viewpoints over the valley.

Dang is hot from April to June. Ghorahi and Tulsipur have good hotels. The Maghi festival in mid-January is the Tharu new year, with dancing and feasting.
