Ramagrama Stupa
In Nepali: रामग्राम स्तूप · Also known as: Ramgram stupa · रामग्राम

After the Buddha's death his relics were divided among eight kingdoms, and the Koliyas of Ramagrama built a stupa over their share. Legend says Emperor Ashoka opened the other seven stupas to redistribute the relics, but left Ramagrama alone because it was guarded by nagas (serpent spirits).
Today it is a grassy mound about 7 m high on the bank of the Jharahi river, venerated by pilgrims from across Asia. It is on UNESCO's tentative list and lies about an hour's drive east of Lumbini.
What to see and do
Walk around the grassy mound under the trees, watched over by pilgrims' prayer flags, and visit the small monastery nearby. The riverside setting is peaceful, especially at sunset.
Good to know
The site is managed by the Lumbini Development Trust; the mound itself must not be climbed. Parasi is the nearest town.
