Rasuwagadhi Fort
In Nepali: रसुवागढी
Rasuwagadhi was built in the 1850s during the Nepal–Tibet war to control the pass where the Bhote Koshi (Trishuli) enters Nepal from Kyirong. Its stone walls and gun ports still stand on a cliff above the river.
Today the site sits beside the Rasuwagadhi–Kyirong border crossing, Nepal's main land route to China for trade. The fort is an easy side trip from Timure on the Tamang Heritage Trail.
What to see and do
Walk around the fort walls and gun emplacements on the cliff above the river, and look across to the border checkpoint and the valley leading to Kyirong. Nearby Timure village has homestays, and the Tatopani hot springs are on the way.
Good to know
The border area is sensitive: carry your passport, follow checkpoint instructions and avoid photographing security facilities. Only authorised travellers may cross into Tibet.
